About Commenting

What do I like about commenting?
I like commenting because it allows me to connect and learn about people who I totally don’t know. We get to know each other better and we also get to have fun with each other. It makes me feel like I am creating a post, but not a usual post, a very special post that is making me connect with someone. I also like commenting because commenting is fun. It is fun because I like writing stories myself. If I write a post, maybe nobody or very less people will read it. But when I comment, surely, someone will read it.

What is annoying about commenting?
First of all, I don’t like grammar and spelling errors. Sometimes, I type something up and it comes up as something else. I also don’t like those people who comment on my posts and use improper grammar. Also, I get very annoyed if I don’t understand the comment.

How have you found interesting posts to comment on?
I have found some interesting posts in #17stubc Flipbaord magazine to comment on. One of those is Lila’s post. It is about saving those homeless reptiles. Another one that I like is Brynn’s post. She has made a very creative poster about hunger global issues.

Are your posts getting lots of quality comments? Why or why not?
Some are and some are not. For the ones that I get a lot of comments, are the ones that are inspiring or creative. For the ones that I haven’t got lots of comments, it shows that I have to improve on it, and may be I didn’t do a very good job on it. One of the best comments I had is from Idyl:
Dear Phakamon,
I really liked your post and how you are explain why WFP explains the reason of hunger worldwide. Both if my parents work for this organization and help feed populations. Hunger is a serious issue most kids don not have food in poor countries and we often waste food without think that others do not even have the opportunity to get some.
I will be using your post for this Week 8 Activity.

Hunger
Jennifer's Post
Hi there Jennifer,
I really found that your post is valuable and interesting. The other day, I thought while eating my food about those who have totally nothing to eat. And you have mentioned those points about the people who have nothing to eat. I think that this post can make the whole world aware of what is happening. I hope that many people will visit this post.
Thanks,
Phakamon

Water Water Everywhere, Not a Drop to Drink
Mai Thao's Post
Hello Maithao,
I think that your poster is super creative. You have managed to cover everything and squeeze it just in one small poster. You have also mentioned the ways of saving water. This shows that small steps of any person can help change and develop the world. You have asked, “How do you save water?” You can save water by using a cup when you brush your teeth. You won’t need to turn the tap on and off to rinse your mouth. I hope you found this point useful.
Thanks,
Phakamon

Are Women’s Right Human Rights?
Kait's Post
Hi there Kait,
I have found your post one of the most interesting so far in the Flipboard Magazine. You have made your poster simple with not that much information but it means a lot to those who have to marry before eighteen. I also like the ending part that adds some more details to what is happening.
Thanks,
Phakamon

Hunger

Picture
We learned in our Social Studies class that since the time of river valley civilizations we are capable of producing enough food for everyone to receive adequate nutrition. Then why they (wfp.org) say that  nearly 1 billion people suffer from hunger every day?
Is it because of
  • wars and conflicts that decrease food supplies
  • weather and climate change that leaves a dramatic impact on the production of arable land
  • increase in deforestation, desertification, soil erosion, drought, and poor agricultural practices
  • or population growth rate that makes it way difficult to match with food production rate

No matter what the reason is, I think we can take smaller steps to bring a big change to stop world hunger by
  • being thoughtful and careful when buying food
  • not over serving family and friends when cooking meals
  • saving and eating left overs or trying composting, but don't focus on it
  • storing food in the right place for it to not stale
  • avoiding cluttering food in fridge/freezer
  • donating food to poor people

Organizing a Party

Blog Post Credit: Alicia

What would your ideal party be?
My ideal party is simply fantastic. First of all, I would like to have a food cocktail. It will not cost a lot of money and also it will be something different. People can eat whatever they want. A few years ago, my friend went to my party and she had to eat one certain meal which she didn’t like. Ever since then, I thought about the food that everybody likes. Another thing I’d like to have in my party is a trampoline. It will be so much fun and we can see each other’s talents. We might see our friends doing acrobats or flips which will be so cool. The last thing I’d like to have is a room where there is one giant sofa and a giant television. It is almost like a theater. It will be very nice, unlike theaters, we can walk around and play if we want.

What traditional games does your family play in parties?
There is one certain game that I really like. It is not traditional but is super fun. I cannot remember the name of it but it is eating jelly with chopsticks and straws. First of all, you get a big bowl of jelly. Then you get to choose either a straw or a pair of chopsticks. After that, you have to eat the jelly in your bowl as fast as you can. Whoever finishes first will win.

What is the only thing you would extremely need to organize a party?
I think that the most important thing is food. You can play games with your food and then eat it after. I have never played this game before but I saw it on a TV show, a person has to balance as many cookie sandwiches as possible on his nose, and the amount he can balance will be the amount he can eat. You can also eat in a movie theater. It will be more fun if you eat while watching a movie. When an exciting scene comes, you toss a popcorn into your mouth.

My Ideal School

Picture
Image created by me using MS Paint
My current school is already a great school. But what do I want my ideal school to be? I want my ideal school to be almost like my own school right now.

First of all, I would like my school to have many sections. In the picture above, I have made five sections not including the swimming pool, parking and green area. This makes me feel that I am free and I can go anywhere I want. I thought of this because you cannot just squeeze everything in one building. Only that the center building has only one floor. As you may see, there is one class for every grade, this is because everybody learns together in one class, just to make things simple. Also, there will be different groups. They will switch classes. Maybe the first group of grade 9 goes to the art and culture building while the other group stays in the classroom. I didn’t add the details to other buildings because they are quite simple the way you can imagine them. I made the library big because I think that the students must explore. Students may even spend more time outside than in their classroom.

Next, this school has many facilities. Children have different talents. The clubs and buildings help children explore more on their talents. The theater is made quite big because it allows students to speak up and show their ideas. Also, the swimming pool is almost as big as the gym, in fact bigger than the gym. This is because there are lots of sections. One for synchronized swimming, another for swimming practice, then one for diving, and lots more. This is the same with every other building.

This school is actually eco-friendly. Only bicycles are allowed to go around the building. The cars and motorcycles should be parked in the car park. The park actually has green houses. The green houses are there for students to do experiments and also for them to go when they feel stressed. I think plants help make peace and happiness.

This school is the school that helps us open our minds up, and create love. It will also help me in my career, and develop my talent.

What I Want to Do Once I Leave School

So, what do I want to do once I leave school? There are a lot of things but I will only mention some. Some of the people that inspire me are authors, scientists, and some are with me every day.

First of all, I want to study biochemistry in the university. I really like biology and I also like to explore chemistry. The person that inspires me is Ben Goldacre, a British physician, academic and science writer. He writes about how science really matters. He also mentions experiments about matter and the human body in one of his books called ‘Bad Science’. I read it every night and find out that we cannot just depend on teachers or the internet about facts, but we have to find it out ourselves.

Another field is pharmacy. I like to be a pharmacist because whenever I go to the hospital, I always see the pharmacists packing medicines and I notice that they are a little cheerful. But once again, that is not the only thing I want to be.

I also want to be a doctor. Whenever I talk about biology to senior grades or to my parents, they mostly talk about cutting frogs and doing stuff with living things. Most people think that it is disgusting but I think that it is cool and exciting.

Another thing I want to be is a comic author. My inspiration is Raina Telgemeier,
an American cartoonist. In one of my previous posts, I mentioned that my interest is drawing comics. Right now, I am drawing a comic story called ‘Frank the Cat’. There are many comic books that not only give you happiness, but give knowledge as well. But this work is not something I want to do as a fixed job, I want to do it as a part time job. The reason behind this is because I won’t get so much profit. Also, it will be quite boring.

The last thing I want to be is a news reporter or writer. Many teachers have said that my background in writing is really good. And also I like reporting things to my mother. Not reporting as in telling my mother that this kid made me cry or so, but reporting on what I learn at school and what I discover when I do some fun fact researching. It is like doing two things together. Researching and telling.

Finally, I want to make a lifelong project such as starting a business or inventing something. I always feel excited when our teacher says that we are going to start a project. It makes me feel that I am about to start my own work. This is actually related to the last challenge about attribution and licenses. It makes me feel that I just made a masterpiece.
